Mentoring Program Reaches 50 Students in Hillsborough County

Our K-12 mentoring initiative is expanding, helping first-generation students improve reading and comprehension skills.

Children & Adults Point, Inc. (CAP) is proud to announce that our K–12 mentoring program has now reached over 50 students across Hillsborough County. This milestone marks a significant step forward in our mission to empower the next generation through education and mentorship.

What the Program Does

Our mentoring initiative connects qualified mentors with K–12 students and first-generation college students in a structured, supportive environment. The program focuses on strengthening reading, writing, and comprehension skills — areas where many students in underserved communities need the most support.

Each student is paired with a dedicated mentor who provides weekly one-on-one sessions, academic guidance, and positive encouragement. Mentors are trained volunteers and staff from Children & Adults Point, Inc. who are committed to making a lasting impact.

Measurable Impact

Since launching the program, we have seen a measurable improvement in academic performance. Our goal remains to increase first-generation students’ learning levels by 20–35%, reflected in improved performance on standardized reading and comprehension assessments in the School District of Hillsborough County.

“Every child deserves someone who believes in them. Our mentors show up every week with that belief — and the students feel it.”

— Niamke J. Etchene, CEO, Children & Adults Point, Inc.
